In the 8th chapter of the Durgā Saptashatī, from the body of Goddess Kauśikī emerge the 8 Mātṛkā Devī who are known as the little mothers of speech as they rule over the different letter groups of the Sanskrit alphabet. The youth of the Goddess is celebrated during this season for it comes after monsoon and represents being reborn after spending 9 months in the womb. Course Structure Day 1: We’ll dive into understanding word as an expression of the divine, the appearance of the little mothers in the Durga Saptashatī, and how each one battles an inner enemy constantly. We’ll end the class with a group meditation to remember the existence of these Goddesses within us. Day 2: We’ll explore how to do a ritual practice for the 9 days with mantra, stotra, and self-inquiry through journaling prompts for each day to have a deeper exploration of different aspects of our inner dialogue.
